Learn and Level-Up, Even While You’re Stuck In An Alien Landscape

Have you ever shown up on your first day at a new company, looked around, and asked yourself, “Where the Hell am I and how did I get here?”

New jobs can be full of hope — they can also be generators of disappointment, anxiety, and a new zeal for a fresh job search!

I’ve had plenty of fresh starts that felt more like a crash landing on an alien landscape than securing a dream job, and I’m happy to report that all of the adventures I survived helped me thrive when I found the right opportunity.

One of the first jobs I got after graduating high school was as a salesperson at a used car dealership. It was the type of car dealership that gives used car dealerships a bad reputation, and I was most definitely in over my head!

I spent most of my days wandering the lot, waiting for someone to drive in so I could greet them and try to sell them a car. In an effort to avoid salespeople, many folks drove in, slowed, and rolled around the lot to look at inventory, but did not get out of their vehicle or venture inside the showroom…
