Rebecka Vigus: I’ve always had a deep love for storytelling ever since I was a child. Growing up in the suburbs and attending a more rural school, books became my portal to different worlds, and I found solace in creating my own stories. As I embarked on my writing journey, I faced the usual challenges and self-doubt that many aspiring authors encounter. However, with determination and a strong belief in my voice, I pushed forward, honing my craft through countless hours of writing and learning from the works of established authors. Eventually, I got my breakthrough and published my first novel, and the rest is history.
Natalie Ruiz: That’s inspiring to hear, Rebecka! It’s clear that your passion for storytelling has driven your success as an author. In your opinion, what are the key qualities or skills that aspiring authors need to cultivate to achieve their goals?
Rebecka Vigus: Absolutely. Firstly, having a genuine love for the craft is crucial. Writing is not just a job but a way of life. The dedication and discipline required to consistently produce quality work can only come from a deep-rooted passion. Secondly, being receptive to feedback is essential for growth. Constructive criticism allows us to improve our writing and become more refined storytellers. Additionally, honing the ability to stay focused and disciplined amidst distractions is vital, as writing requires immense concentration and commitment. Lastly, resilience is key. Rejection and setbacks are inevitable in this industry, but it’s important to keep pushing forward, constantly evolving and improving.
Natalie Ruiz: These are invaluable insights, Rebecka. Passion, feedback, discipline, and resilience are undoubtedly crucial aspects for any writer’s journey. Could you share an experience or a turning point in your career that taught you a valuable lesson and helped shape you as an author?
Rebecka Vigus: Definitely. Early in my career, I faced one particular rejection that hit me hard. It made me question my abilities and whether I was truly meant to be an author. However, rather than letting it discourage me, I used it as an opportunity for self-reflection and growth. Instead of dwelling on the rejection, I focused on improving my craft and finding my unique voice. It was a transformative moment that taught me the importance of perseverance and self-belief. Ultimately, that rejection led me to discover my true potential and paved the way for my subsequent successes.

Embrace your unique perspective and experiences, as that is what will make your writing stand out. Remember, the world needs your voice, so don’t be afraid to share your stories with the world.
