I’ve learned a lot of lessons throughout my life and career. One of the most sobering was that not everyone will cheer for you when you’re winning.
In the past, the naysayers, the haters, and the people who wanted me to be less bothered me.
These days, I focus on my journey, and I appreciate the people applauding my wins. I pay close attention to the folks who receive what I share as fuel to help them keep going. Not only do I ignore negativity, I mostly do not even see it.
But it wasn’t always this way for me.
As I gained experience and a platform, I felt compelled to share more of what I had learned in hopes of helping others. I also began sharing some of my professional successes because I knew that sometimes, just seeing someone thriving can fan the flames of possibility in us when it comes to underestimated populations.
Showing up publicly and sharing some of what I had been up to career-wise garnered mixed results. I knew there was a risk with putting myself out there, but I didn’t expect some people closest to me to receive me with negativity. Not only was I teased…
