Passive-aggressive? No. One of my favorite coffee mugs that is in heavy rotation on meeting days? Yes!

How many of the meetings that are on your calendar suck? If the answer is even ONE, it is too many. Time is money and time is precious — wasting it in an unproductive meeting is unacceptable.

Not sure if your meetings suck or not? We can get foggy on the definition of a great meeting when poorly-lead and useless meetings become the norm. Let me ask you this, are people distracted? Are they multitasking? Are there side conversations happening through chat or other means? Could you summarize what the point of the meeting was and the role you played in adding value if you were asked? How did everyone feel after the meeting? Who benefitted from the meeting? What was actually accomplished? Finally, could this meeting have been an email?

As you start to think of the answers to these questions, you might begin to realize that you’ve been part of meetings that could have been much better!

Coming together to connect and collaborate has so much value. I love meeting with my teams. When meetings are done well, they can energize, uplift, and calibrate a team or a workforce. When they are executed poorly, they can have the opposite impact. It is worth it to be intentional about making the time we spend together…
