Like It or Not, You Already Have a Personal Brand. Learn How to Make the Most of It

How being you on purpose can give you access to more of what you want.

We are living and working in a very “look at me now” focused time. Our attention spans are short, we rely more and more on technology to connect, we get much of our news in very small bites through social media channels, and we share A LOT of ourselves online. As a geriatric millennial who can remember life before the internet and social media, it definitely feels like a strange time to be alive!

Today, most of us have some form of social media that we engage with regularly, and we keep a smartphone within inches of us at almost all times. So, why is it that when we think of personal branding, which can be described as being intentional about how we show up in life and in digital spaces, we hesitate or cringe?

Let me start with why I cringed at the idea the first, second, and third time it came up… The idea of putting myself out there or building a personal brand seemed self-indulgent, egocentric, and weird. It also activated the limiting belief gremlins who whisper in my ears “Who do you think you are?”

I also think I cringed because my idea of personal branding was off-base. I imagined something constraining…
