I had a lot of goals for 2020. I could list them here, but it isn’t valuable — because this year didn’t go according to any plan I had in mind when I set my intentions.

This isn’t to say the year has been a bust. Surprisingly, there have been more wins than I expected at the start of the year with Covid looming on the horizon. Still, there have been countless disappointments, course changes, and events that rocked me this year. I know I am not alone in this.

How many redirects can a person survive before they’re worn down? This isn’t hypothetical, it is a real question. I’ve watched as joy and exuberance has been drained from so many, and I have felt it leaving me too.

As a leader, it’s important to light the way. I have been asked a lot lately about how I stay motivated.
