I Started Savoring My Life and It Changed Everything
How taking more pictures and trying to enjoy the mundane made me happier
The other night, I grumbled because I “had to” take the dog for one more walk before I could get ready for bed. I was tired, I thought it would be cold outside, and I didn’t want to do it.
When I got out my front door, I was met with the silence of the night and the bright, full moon. It was peaceful and really pretty. It wasn’t cold inside my puffy jacket.
As I turned the corner with my dog trotting ahead, the scent of the cherry blossoms was so strong that I stood under them for several minutes soaking it all in. In the moonlight, the moment felt special. I snapped a picture, which didn’t really capture what I was seeing or feeling, but locked the memory of the moment into my device and cloud storage.
Truth be told, my body felt better after walking. I was refreshed after a quiet moonlit outing on my own. The dog was taken care of and happy.
I couldn’t remember why I had been grumbling… life was good.
