Few people can say they’ve built an entire industry, but today’s guest is one of them. A true trailblazer in bioidentical hormone pellet therapy, she has spent more than 30 years revolutionizing how we approach hormonal health, aging, and wellness. From co-founding SottoPelle® with her late husband, Dr. Gino Tutera, to expanding the company’s reach and impact, her work has changed countless lives. As a leader, entrepreneur, and advocate, she continues to push boundaries, challenge misconceptions, and educate both patients and medical professionals about the power of hormone therapy. In this interview, she shares her journey, the lessons she’s learned, and why she remains so passionate about helping people take control of their health and longevity.

Thank you so much for connecting with me and sharing your story. I’m so excited to get started! Tell me about what you do professionally:

I am the first woman and industry pioneer in the male-dominated bioidentical hormone pellet therapy field and the reason it is practiced across America today. I manage every aspect of the business including marketing, administration, patient services, provider training, development, product education and media relations while serving as the corporate spokeswoman.

SottoPelle® trains and educates medical providers in the best protocols for natural hormonal optimization, disease prevention and age-management medicine. We are the industry leader for using bioidentical hormone pellets for patients with menopause, andropause and age-related conditions. We offer a proprietary method of bioidentical hormone replacement pellet therapy for men and women, as part of the SottoPelle® Method.

Tutera Medical®, with offices in Scottsdale and other Arizona locations, provides effective treatment for hormone deficiencies, particularly in menopause and andropause, to help improve patients’ well-being, especially as they age. It has been named the #1 hormone practice in Arizona for 9 consecutive years.

How did you get into this?

I’ve always been a trailblazer at heart, so it was only natural that I partnered with one as the co-founder of SottoPelle®. In 1993, my late husband Dr. Gino Tutera learned about pellet therapy. He developed a multi-patented individualized dosing site for hormone optimization using bioidentical pellets in 2004. We worked together for over 20 years to expand pellet therapy to a new level, combining our vision, passion and talent to develop an entire industry and the way hormone therapy is practiced today.

Now, more than 30 years later, my company remains the industry leader for pellet practices nationwide. We truly are the pioneer and the industry gold standard. I have also expanded the company to offer nutraceuticals and wellness products under the Caitera brand.

That is so interesting! What do you love about it?

Healthier and happier patients! Knowing that we’re making such a huge difference in people’s lives makes my day. I love hearing from both male and female patients how pellet therapy is helping to enhance their overall health and quality of life. My satisfaction comes from reading so many five-star reviews and knowing how we have saved people’s lives and marriages.

How does pellet therapy work?

SottoPelle® uses natural, plant-based BHRT pellets — about the size of a grain of rice and gently slipped beneath the skin — that match the molecular structure of human hormones. This method releases the hormone gradually and consistently, so the body receives the correct amount exactly when it is needed on a 24–7 basis.

Unlike synthetic pharmaceutical hormone pills and patches that often carry adverse side effects, bioidentical hormones match those produced naturally by the body. The pellet delivery system releases the hormone gradually and consistently, so the body receives the correct amount exactly when it is needed.

Why is this work important to you?

Without vitality and good health, people are unable to live their dreams and pursue their passions. The services my companies offer are safe, natural and effective, without the use of harmful drugs. It’s important to me to safeguard patients’ well-being and know we’re helping them feel happier and healthier.

My late husband’s groundbreaking research showed how hormones are the control panel of the body and brain, regulating every organ, gland, tissue and function. While medical providers commonly use hormone therapy just to treat menopause, Dr. Tutera conducted decades of extensive research on the role of hormones in cognitive function and mental health as well as preventing neurodegenerative conditions.

His innovations helped NFL players with head injuries over a dozen years ago and in treating patients with Traumatic Brain Injury and Parkinson’s disease. It’s important to continue this medical legacy and, as a trailblazer, break new ground in the frontiers of brain and mental health so we can slow down the sharp rise in these conditions.

Clearly, you’re thriving; your passion is coming through loud and clear! What makes you so great at this?

I got the entrepreneurial bug at an early age watching my father open many menswear stores. The dedication and work ethic he taught me has served me well, so I’ve been a trailblazer all my life.

My experience includes marketing and as an educator. I continue to apply these skills in my role as the pellet industry leader paving the way to better health.

I am also a role model and influencer for aging gracefully, appearing on many podcasts and broadcasts talking with other influencers about the health benefits of hormones, especially for older women.

What is the most challenging part of your work?

One of the greatest challenges has been correcting the misinformation and clarifying the confusion circulating about hormones. Very few medical researchers or media reports make the distinction between pharmaceutical and bioidentical hormones, the various delivery methods and the importance of individual dosing. They also miss the countless studies showing how hormones serve as the body’s control panel in regulating overall health and disease prevention well beyond our reproductive years.

An integral part of my company’s mission is helping patients, the media and other medical professionals understand that bioidentical hormone pellets are safe, natural and effective — and completely different than the synthetic hormones demonized by earlier reports over 20 years ago. Sadly, that confusion halted proper hormone therapy for millions of women and recent studies now show it cost thousands of lives.

Educating medical providers about the role of hormones in brain, mental and autoimmune health has been challenging. Many researchers, bloggers and social media influencers still don’t know about bioidentical hormones and remain baffled about the spike in Alzheimer’s in women over 50. My job every day is to educate them on the inextricable correlation between hormones and cognitive function.

What kind of an impact are you hoping to make through what you do?

My goal is to help people age gracefully and prevent serious illness. This has been the heart of our work at SottoPelle®. I want to continue my late husband’s medical legacy with this method, which is scientifically backed by dozens of studies for 85 years.

Every day I hear from patients around the nation about the positive impact that pellet therapy has had on their lives. My current focus is on how pellet therapy is helping to prevent neurodegenerative diseases and even depression.

Overcoming the current barriers preventing women and men from accessing the proper hormone testing and therapy needed to prevent debilitating diseases and health issues as they age is another goal.

I believe that pellet therapy could help alleviate much of the general malaise and health decline that hits both sexes in mid-life. Recent studies now show what my late husband discovered over a dozen years ago about the role of hormones in brain health. Greater awareness of this may help prevent the risk of Alzheimer’s, especially for women over 50.

Greater awareness of this may help prevent the risk of Alzheimer’s, especially for women over 50.

I am a big reader — well, I am more of an audiobook person nowadays. In any case, I love talking about great reads. What is one of your favorite books?

I’ve noticed many new books about menopause like Goodnight Night Sweats. Women’s health over 50 is such a hot trend, reminding me that my company is on the right track and has been ahead of its time for over the past 30 years.

Since I’m passionate about eradicating the mythology of aging, I enjoy reading the works of other influencers who share my interest. My next read is the new release, Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old. She and I share a similar philosophy!

I also love reading self-help books that help readers peel back the layers to find one’s True Self.

If you could talk to your younger self, what would you say?

Gather as much knowledge as you can. Allow your own ideas to shine and take you where you want to go. Don’t work at your job; play and enjoy it! Don’t be afraid to take risks, to stand out and glow!

Do you have a favorite quote? What does it mean to you?

My favorite quote is one from my late husband, Dr. Tutera:

“My research shows that hormonal imbalance contributes to 90 percent of depression and mental illnesses. I truly believe that pellet therapy could empty out most of the psychiatric and mental health facilities in this country and certainly get patients off the dangerous drugs prescribed for depression, anxiety and panic.”

Outside of work, what do you love doing? What lights you up?

Baking is my passion and helps me escape from the daily challenges of running a multifaceted business. I also enjoy playing golf and pickleball, walking my dog, and spending time with my grandkids.

I believe there is power in having big dreams and audacious goals, and lately, I have been pushing myself and everyone I know to speak them out loud… Do you have any dreams or goals you want to go on record about here?

I’m excited about collaborating with other researchers like the Amen Clinic to conduct further studies on the impact of hormone pellet therapy on the brain.

It is my hope that the medical profession will recognize the important role hormones play in overall health and mental function as well as disease prevention and support their patients who choose BHRT pellets as part of their wellness regimen.

Amazing! Thank you so much for sharing that with me. Ok, now for the big question of the interview! What is the biggest lesson you have learned through your life and career journey?

After Dr. Tutera passed, for a long while, I wasn’t sure if I was able to move forward with building the company and carrying on his legacy. It was a long road for a few years of working with a few different partners.

As time went on and I became stronger, I knew it was important to continue what we had built for the sake of our patients. And I came to realize that I don’t need partners to help expand my business, that I know what I’m doing, and I know how to get there. I learned to trust my instincts and the innate skills that got me here in the first place.

Finally, what makes you a powerful woman?

I inject everything I do with joy and passion. I take challenges head-on as a force of nature instead of backing away. It’s about embracing the power within to effect change. It’s about having the courage to stand up against adversity, push beyond limits, and forge a path of resilience, determination and success.

How can we support you?

It’s time to bust the myths about aging and hormone therapy. Sharing the links to my podcasts, videos and websites can help educate people and enhance their well-being. They contain tons of information explaining how pellet therapy can help people stay healthy, age gracefully and prevent disease.

We have to end the unnecessary madness of cognitive decline, dementia, Alzheimer’s and depression that postmenopausal women are facing when studies have already shown how hormonal balance can make a difference.
