Meet Deirdre! She is applying her skills to work toward the ideal world she has envisioned — and she is doing this with up-cycled umbrellas.

I love interesting ideas and the innovative, tenacious people who run with them! Deirdre is intriguing because of the specific way she is looking to solve the very real problem of plastics that pollute filling our oceans… She has founded a company that is turning garbage into useful, upcycled umbrellas. How cool is this!?!

Natalie Ruiz: What is your current business venture?

Deirdre Horan: I am the founder of Dri, a company creating a line of durable, fashionable, and environmentally sustainable umbrellas made from upcycled ocean-bound plastic.

Natalie Ruiz: What do you love about it?

Deirdre Horan: While making business decisions is new and interesting for me, I’m really excited to establish the values and core principles upon which the company is built. It has prompted me to envision an ideal world, and build towards that.

Natalie Ruiz: What makes you great at what you do?

Deirdre Horan: I don’t mind cold contacting people, then getting on the phone or Zoom with a perfect stranger. I actually really enjoy meeting new people- learning from them, discovering commonalities, inquiring how I can help them in…
