3 Career Advancing Lessons I Wish I had Learned Sooner.
Ihave been in the workforce for more than twenty years, and my kids are now getting close to the age I was when I started my first “real” job, which was bagging groceries at a local supermarket. I learned a lot from that experience, including how totally unprepared for the workforce I was when I started out.
These days, I work as a CEO at a technology company that has expanded globally. I’ve grown in ways I could not have anticipated, and much of that growth is due to a few key lessons I learned, (the hard way of course.)
My hope in sharing these is that it might help you as you or someone you can share this with, as you navigate your career journey.
Perfection is not the expectation. Sometimes we hesitate to take on a project, apply for a promotion or say yes to a gig because we feel like we aren’t ready. I’ve learned that the best way to improve is by doing. Your first time won’t be flawless, and that is ok!
Let the helpers help you! Believe it or not, you are surrounded by people who want to see you win. Your network has expertise and connections they’re willing to share. Get comfortable asking for what you need and want. You will likely be astonished at the way people show up for you!
